Puppet Playtimes

Puppets are a great way to play with preschoolers. Children quickly engage in imaginative play with a puppet around. Often a child can be less inhibited to talk to a puppet then speak with a person. The first time a puppet is introduced to a child, a young child will typically hit the puppet. It is like they are testing to see if the puppet is alive, like poking a bug. It is well to teach the child not to hit the puppet or it will go away. A puppet also helps the adult who may have forgotten the fun of imaginative play to engage with a child. Having a family of puppets can help children resolve emotions that may be difficult for them.

Even a old sock can be a fun puppet if you draw a smile and eyes on it. Such a puppet can make a hard task fun like Mikey the Monster puppet loves to pick up toys.
